There are many kinds of weights that can ensnare us.
Hebrews 12:1-3 - Do you see what this means - all these pioneers who blazed the way, the great cloud of witnesses, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running - and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, lay aside every weight, no parasitic sins. 2 Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race of faith that we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed - that exhilarating finish in and with God - he could put up with anything along the way: The Cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God at His throne. 3 When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again by considering Jesus, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls and you won’t grow weary and lose heart!
- Lay aside weight, in order to run our race.
- God has a specific path and finish line for every one of us.
- People without a "God Focused" finish line or "God Focused" vision cast off restraint.
Proverbs 29:18 - If people can't see what God is doing and have no vision, they stumble all over themselves and cast off restraint; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
- If you can't see "What God is Doing," you really have "no vision" and will give your life for things that carry little to no eternal weight.
I Corinthians 10:23 - "Everything is permissible"- but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"- but not everything is constructive.
- The finish line of our race on earth ends in Heaven.
- Where will be people you love spend eternity?
Matthew 10:39 - Whoever finds his [lower] life will lose it [the higher life], and whoever loses his [lower] life on My account will find it [the higher life].
- Most Christians are aiming toward the wrong outcome.
Colossians 3:1-4 - So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides at the right hand of God. 2 Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ - that's where the action is. See things from His perspective. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
- What is the outcome of laying aside "The Weights" and living the "Christ Life?"
Matthew 6:33 - But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things (the things we worry about, money and what it buys) will be given to you as well.
Col 3:5-10 - Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Matt 16:24-26 - 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. 25 For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]?
2 Cor 4:6-18 - 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. 13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 5:1-4 - For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:. 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
