There are needs in man that only God can meet and there are needs in man that God has designed to be met in marriage.
We will destroy the spirit of our marriage when we demand our spouse to meet the needs that our relationship with God is designed to meet.
When we seek to have God meet the needs in our lives that he has designed our marriage to meet, we become imbalanced.
In every human need there is a "God Side" and a "Man Side" involved in its fulfillment.
4 Basic Human Needs
- Acceptance - knowing you are loved and needed
- Identity - knowing you are individually significant and special
- Security - Knowing you are well protected and provided for
- Purpose - Knowing you have a reason for living
When our lives become "unbalanced" our relationships will become unsustainable.
Acceptance
Ephesians 1:6 - to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Genesis 2:25 - The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Identity
Acts 17:28 - For in Him we live, and move, and have our being;
Matthew 19:5-6 - and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
Don't confuse "Identity" with "Purpose."
Security
John 10:27-29 - My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.
John 13:34 - A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
Unconditional Love provides security.
Purpose
Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
I Peter 3:7 - Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. |
